THE ITEMIZED COLUMN
When a person gives enough to be named, the filing prints their city and state.
Figures has 966 named contributions totaling $323,410. Four hundred thirty-five of them came from Alabama and account for $99,433.
The other $223,976 came from somewhere else. Sixty-nine percent.
The largest out-of-state sources, in order: Washington D.C. at $39,476, California at $35,780, Washington State at $26,238, Maryland at $20,585, Virginia at $18,950, New York at $18,590.
Washington D.C. is a city of 700,000 people. It gave him more named money than any Alabama city did.
THE COMMITTEE COLUMN
The larger half of his money does not come from people at all. It comes from political committees, and it is $864,885.
Alabama committees supplied $73,212 of it. That is 8.5 percent.
Committees registered in Washington D.C. supplied $419,258.
For every dollar an Alabama committee put into this campaign, committees in the District of Columbia put in nearly six.
THE SAME MEASURE, APPLIED TO THE OTHER SIDE
Rhett Marques has raised $1,318,573. Within a few thousand dollars, the two campaigns have raised the same amount of money.
They did not raise it in the same place.
Marques has 551 named Alabama contributions worth $998,164, out of $1,075,797 named in total. Ninety-three percent of his named individual money is Alabama money. On the committee side he is 52 percent Alabama.
Across everything disclosed, Marques is 85.4 percent Alabama. Figures is 14.5 percent.
The out-of-state money is not a story about the summer. On July 22 Figures was sitting on $662,600 of it, unspent, for October.
WHO SHOWED UP IN JUNE
His largest single month of named contributions this cycle was June 2026, $83,750 across 199 gifts.
The maximum a person may give for the general election is $3,500. Nineteen donors wrote that check in June. Twelve of them do not live in Alabama. They wrote from California, New York, Texas, Colorado, Michigan and Arkansas.
Of the seven who do live here, four list the same employer.
On June 23 a Washington D.C. committee called the Rolling Sea Action Fund spent $100,000 on radio and digital advertising for him. That is on top of everything above.
The largest single committee check of the quarter, $20,500, came from something called the Clyburn Cleaver Figures Victory Fund. Two of the three names on it are Congressmen from South Carolina and Missouri.
WHAT THE RECORD COVERS
Every figure above is from filings with the Federal Election Commission through July 22, 2026, the close of the most recent report for both campaigns.
The next report, covering July through September, is due October 15. We will read it the day it posts.
FIFTY-THREE DAYS
Fifty-three days until November 3.
Rhett Marques is the Republican nominee in Alabama's Second Congressional District. Shomari Figures is the incumbent.
A district picks its own Congressman. Somebody should tell the donors.
We want this seat back. Show up.
Wall of Shame — Today: Drummond
Today on the Wall of Shame: the Drummond Company PAC (Birmingham) has put $10,000 into Rep. Shomari Figures' campaign account. Figures then voted no on the National Coal Council Reestablishment Act, against the federal body advising on coal jobs and policy — one of only a handful of Democrats opposed. The Wall of Shame exists for one reason — so that total stops growing. https://take2back.com/wall-of-shame.html
