Six Democrats Voted To Go After Fraud. Figures Did Not

SIX DEMOCRATS VOTED TO GO AFTER FRAUD. SHOMARI FIGURES WAS NOT ONE OF THEM.

On September 16 the House passed the Preventing Rip-offs and Obtaining Oversight of Funds Act, the PROOF Act. It passed 217 to 207.

Shomari Figures voted no.

Six Democrats voted yes. He was not one of them.

Robert Aderholt voted yes. Barry Moore voted yes. Gary Palmer voted yes. Mike Rogers voted yes. Dale Strong voted yes.

WHAT THE BILL DOES

When the Attorney General asks in writing, a state running a federally funded program has to turn over the information needed to investigate or prosecute fraud in that program.

Medicaid is the first program the bill names. The Justice Department can add others it identifies as vulnerable to fraud.

The information can be used for fraud enforcement and nothing else. It cannot be disclosed for any unrelated administrative or commercial purpose.

Every year, the Attorney General has to report to Congress how many requests were made and how many fraud investigations and convictions came out of them.

That is the bill. It lets the people who investigate fraud in taxpayer-funded programs get the records they need to do it. Our congressman voted against that.

WHAT THE RECORD COVERS

The vote is Roll Call 310, September 16, on H.R. 10326, from the official roll call published by the Clerk of the House, read September 21. Republicans voted 210 to 1 for it. Democrats voted 206 to 6 against it.

What the bill does is taken from its text as passed by the House and from the Congressional Research Service summary on Congress.gov.

The bill was sponsored by Rep. Jeff Van Drew of New Jersey. It has gone to the Senate Judiciary Committee.

FORTY-THREE DAYS

Forty-three days until November 3.

Rhett Marques is the Republican nominee in Alabama's Second Congressional District. Shomari Figures is the incumbent.

Six members of his own party found a reason to vote for this. He did not.

We want this seat back. Show up.

Wall of Shame — Today: Poarch Creek

Today on the Wall of Shame: the Poarch Band of Creek Indians (Atmore) has put $3,500 into Rep. Shomari Figures' campaign account. The Wall of Shame exists for one reason — so that total stops growing. https://take2back.com/wall-of-shame.html
