Iran Endorses Shomari Figures

IRAN ENDORSES SHOMARI FIGURES

On Tuesday, September 29, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps published a 26-page open letter addressed to "the honorable people of the United States of America." Reuters reported that it came through Iranian media, five weeks before the November congressional elections.

For more than four decades the Revolutionary Guard's message to America has been "Death to America." This week the message is different: change who governs you.

The letter says the Trump administration "must be changed." It tells Americans to "Remove from power the evil, deceitful, and violent politicians." And it names the moment: "Now is the time, as the American political system is at its weakest."

IRAN WANTS DEMOCRATS IN POWER

There is one way to take power from President Trump and his party this November. Elect Democrats to Congress. That is what the Revolutionary Guard is asking American voters to do.

The letter even explains its old slogan. "Death to America," it says, "is a prayer for the eradication of the diabolical ruling elite." The ruling elite it means is the Republican administration, and the Republicans who hold the House with it.

A Democratic House is the prize. Hakeem Jeffries needs seats like Alabama's Second District to get there, and Shomari Figures is the Democrat holding this one.

Legal scholar Jonathan Turley said it plainly: "It's not a good sign when the IRGC shifts from 'Death to America' to 'Vote Democratic.'"

FIGURES AND IRAN, ON THE RECORD

Twice this year the House voted on ordering American forces out of hostilities with Iran. Both times Shomari Figures voted yes. Both times all five Alabama Republicans voted no. Both failed by a handful of votes.

Roll Call 85, H. Con. Res. 38, taken March 5, directing the President, pursuant to section 5(c) of the War Powers Resolution, to remove United States Armed Forces from unauthorized hostilities in the Islamic Republic of Iran. It failed, 212 to 219. Shomari Figures voted yes. All five Alabama Republicans voted no.

Roll Call 114, H. Con. Res. 40, taken April 16, directing the President, pursuant to section 5(c) of the War Powers Resolution, to remove United States Armed Forces from hostilities with Iran. It failed, 213 to 214. Shomari Figures voted yes. All five Alabama Republicans voted no.

Robert Aderholt, Barry Moore, Gary Palmer, Mike Rogers and Dale Strong voted no on both.

THIRTY-FOUR DAYS

Thirty-four days until November 3.

Rhett Marques is the Republican nominee in Alabama's Second Congressional District. Shomari Figures is the incumbent.

Iran has told American voters what it wants this November. Alabama's Second District can answer.

We want this seat back. Show up.
